AS IF

the limited edition CK "Clueless" dress @ confederacy

CLUELESS is by far my #1 favorite movie of all time. i used to pop in the vhs after school every.single.day. and even though i was a 4th/5th grader, had no idea what an Alaia was, nor was old enough to shop at contempo casuals, I still managed to get my hands on knee-high socks and argyle sweaters to channel my inner Cher.

so when i saw that Confederacy was doing a limited edition release of the famous dress...
(cher's dad: what the hell is that? cher: it's a dress! dad: says who? cher: says Calvin Klein!)
i immediately was brought back to the days of Clueless..

the what-evers, the whiny radiohead music loved by josh, the rollin' with the homies, the outrageous plaid outfits, .. i can go on forever.

things to do today: watch Clueless (but dvd this time) :)

il est superbe, non ?

chanel "paris shanghai" | episode #2

the making of the paris-shanghai collection, debuted in december 2009, coinciding with the opening of the first chanel maison in china. coco chanel herself never had a chance to visit china, but through the eyes and scribbles of karl lagerfeld, i can imagine this collection would be close to what she'd imagine.

and while on the subject of chanel, i am also lusting for the 'temporary skin art' seen in the S/S RTW '09 show. said to last at least 75 days (sans exfoliating, i presume), i think these $75 tats are totally worth it. **

LES TROMPE-L'OEIL DE CHANEL available for a limited time @ chanel.com.

OUR NEED FOR NEWNESS: RESORT AS THE 3RD SEASON

fashion week 101: first come Spring collections during the beginning of Fall (september, trickling into october in paris). then come Fall collections during the beginning of Spring (february-march-ish). then later in the beginning of summer (june) appears Menswear Spring for the next year. couture shows are seemingly falling few and far in between during January (Givenchy isn't even showing on a runway this season, so we have chanel, dior, armani prive, gaultier to look forward to at least). and last but not least we have RESORT (aka "cruise", "holiday", "pre-spring", "pre-summer", "pre-fall", "pre-collection") showing sometime in January, to be released the upcoming late summer/early fall... ?

i'm confused too. thank goodness for this delightful little article/Q&A that NY Mag did, titled,"Resort Report 2011: Fashion Experts Answer Ten Big Questions, Like, "Why Does This Season Exist?".

i'll do a little paraphrasing of a few of the questions to save you some time. i know you may be busy shopping for fur coats right now. it is, after all, summer.

1. 'Resort' and its synonyms (in parentheses above) - what should we call it? 'Resort' and/or 'Cruise' can kind of sound elitist and paints a picture of shiny white yachts and beautiful, tanned people in nautical stripes. but, it's not always like that. most of those collections actually feature outerwear, pants, and dark colors..and bathing suits too.

2. Mo' collections, mo' money? and is it worth it? absolutely. according to CFDA executive director Steven Kolb, the collection is just as important and successful as Spring, has a longer shelf life (6 months), and doesn't get marked down in prices as quickly as the other two seasons.

3. Where/when did this collection come from? since the World War I & II years. in our day, Karl Lagerfeld has taken this in-between season into his own hands and threw decadent parties all over the world for the sake of showing. newcomer Jason Wu is also a huge fan, saying that he and his company has expanded because of this collection.

4. why are most Resort shows shown in the US? because we americans LOVE to shop. and we get bored easily. and our climates vary a lot. word.

5. resort=time to experiment? yeah. since it's still a mystery season, designers have free range to play with fabrics, colors, etc. and not get slapped on the hand for not being in uniform with the rest of the flock of designers.

6., 7. & 8. do editors favor this collection? if i was an editor, it would drive me MAD. juggling and separating three different seasons at a time, paired with a three-month lead requires a person with major organization and memorization skillz. it may be difficult to keep up with all the shows and presentations happening all over town. and, it can become daunting and may result in them becoming BORED. though overall, it's new product to place in editorials.

9. Resort 2010 highlights? the '60s at chanel, MJ, and balenciaga; clean lines and neutrals at celine; classic tailoring at stella mccartney ; shrunken straw boater hats at jason wu, marc jacobs, and oscar de la renta. see slideshow.

10. 'Resort' living up to Spring and Fall stature? some say it already is, but some say it probably won't ever call for its own Fashion Week.

now, here's my personal point of view. i don't care what they call 'resort'. i don't care when fall or spring comes in. what matters is that whatever i am shopping for right at that moment is there for my taking. it's normal to see outerwear in the 'new arrivals' section during summer, and to see bathing suits on sale already before beach season even begins.

said karl lagerfeld in an interview with style.com, "the future of fashion is six months." it makes sense for designers, always having to come up with Fall even before they show the Spring collection they JUST finished for fashion week. always on their toes.

our need for newness is definitely a major factor to the designers and is huge pressure to pump out newer, better, bigger things - things we don't know we need until we see them. it's like a catch 22. we need fashion just as fashion needs the consumer. it's a love/love relationship, and will always be, no matter what you call it.

quite extraordinary.

Paris Highlights: Fall 2010 RTW

the return of minimalism by pheobe philo of celine. faux fur & real ice at chanel, long hair at balenciaga. real women with curves at marc jacobs. and according to leigh lezark (and quite apparent in all these shows), "i think the recession is over!"

how exciting! i think i'm over summer already...

chanel pre-fall ten

i call this the Flapper Cleopatra.

chanel pre-fall 2010 with mirte mass by karl lagerfeld.

FFfT: Boys' League

HIS & HERS // JIL SANDER // MAN DATE // JGL // FEELING YOU

i'll be the first to admit that i am not that savvy on menswear. so, as style.com announced that they were incorporating full menswear reviews and photos to their runway coverage, i gave myself a homework assignment: read CRASHING THE BOYS' CLUB . this who's who of the menswear world does a juxtaposition of the powerful women of fashion with their male counterparts.

photo'd above - sir robert rabensteiner (opposite anna dello russo), contributing fashion editor for L'Uomo Vogue.

how in the world did raf simons already design and show the jil sander spring 2011 collection? we're barely starting summer 2010! anyways, style.com just posted photos from the show in their first-ever menswear runway coverage and i couldn't help but be blinded by the insanely bright color palette. only a select few can master this look, so boys...color with caution!

just taking a gelato break in between shows. this is so cute!

joseph gordon levitt is that quirky, eccentric, good boy-turned-hot type guy that i am most definitely into. i just had to include a photo of him and his impeccable style to go along with this man-friendly FFtF post. no other man can make drunken karaoke'ing of "here comes your man" sexier. definitely a Handsome Man's Club member.

what if a stranger came up to you and said, "hi, i'm really feeling you"..

i can dig it.

happy friday!

Fashion Luxury, Forget It. It's OVER.

viva vena's spring 2010

T by alexander wang, fall 2010

well this is interesting. not that we didn't see this coming, kelly cutrone just put it into the most simple, saddening words:

"Here is what I think is the future: Street life and life style. Style is in; fashion luxury, forget it. It's over. Gucci, Vuitton, Hermes ... all those places are really great, go for it. That business exists in a city called Paris, France. That's where that is. Those businesses will continue. Retail business, pretty much over. I think people who sell to retail companies are people who can't afford their own stores. The poor boys — Old Navy, J.Crew, Gap ... they already knew that and aren't wholesaling. Editorial, magazine, we are going to say buh-bye to them as we know them. They will still exist but everything is on the internet."

haute couture, major fashion editorials in vogue, etc., bespoke one-of-a-kind jewels, made-to-order, at least one-year-wait-list luxe skinned birkins...aren't those the things we bloggers & fashion lovers live for? yes, a bit of an exaggeration, but in our economy's current state, it's not much to ask for some eye candy from our beloved fashion houses, is it?

so as i look through vena cava's lil' sister line, VIVA VENA, and alex wang's T by alexander wang collection, i finally get what this is all about. reaching a broader demographic? the only way to keep their company afloat? a little bit of both i think. those GO international for Target capsule collections, just like the aforementioned, are i think a way for the big guys to reach out to the little people. and we little people greatly appreciate it. don't get me wrong, i am allll for affordability, but is it really necessary to say IT'S OVER to high-end, kelly? i hope this will be the first time you're going to be wrong...

FFft: Chloé cravings

CHLOE'S ZIMMERMANN//THE PARATY//CHLOE SHADES//YOUR OWN PADDINGTON

a candid interview with raquel zimmermann, chloe's spring/summer 2010 spokesmodel..walking around the tuileries garden in paris, talking about how she decided to retire for a season, but jumped at the chance to face chloe's new campaign. i love it when she said "chloe is like candy". girlfriend is soo right. chloe gives me a toothache too :)
a blue oxford shirt, nude stirrup leggings, leather sandals, & the mercie. so simple. so genius. lovelovelove!
yes, i do own one already. but, just like the balenciagasthat sophia and i both tote around, i feel like the paraty is tied with them neck and neck for the most beautifully constructed, versatile, & durable handbag out there. next on the list: luxe skinned in white.
i'm not one to invest so much in sunglasses...i just throw 'em around and would probably lose them by clumsily leaving them behind on the checkout counter or restaurant somewhere. but, if i were to choose a pair (or two, or three), i'd definitely go with a couple acetate frames, like the tilia or cat eye myrtres from chloe's spring/summer collection. where to get them? 80spurple has 'em all!
and a few parting words to our once beloved PADDINGTON:
paddington, when we first laid eyes on you, we fell in love. your gleaming leather, your brushed golden hardware, your 10-pound lock, and the key that unlocked our hearts. but now, we're sorry to say that we must part ways. we've moved on and so should you. hopefully someone on eBay will find you and treat you like the gorgeous satchel you are. <3

have a lovely weekend everyone!

hip-hip hooray!

any traveler knows that having a useful (yet chic) bag to carry around while trotting the world is essential. so before my annual trip to new york, i went on a hunt to find just that. when traveling i usually bring one of my balenciaga city bags but found that even that is too big and not all that sufficient being that it's a top-handle bag.

then i saw this. balenciaga's newest addition, appropriately named 'the hip.' this hands-free bag is roomy enough to fit your cell phone, camera and lip gloss, strap is long enough to wear crossbody and the colors..oh the colors! and the best part, your hands are free to hold shopping bags and cafe lattes.

in love with pamela love

and what's not to love?! this multi-talented new york it-girl designs the most amazingly unique and edgy jewelry pieces! a few pieces of her rings and necklaces would complete anyone's jewelry collection.

here are some of my favorites

eagle claw cuff

double finger talon ring (you know my current obsession with double finger rings)

cross ring

saved the best for last. pamela love's cage ring. lalalove this piece!
